Tom Gillin
has over 25 years of experience in the culinary world.
He attained his CEC (Certified Executive chef) and CCE
(certified culinary educator) designations while working as a chef
instructor at the
Lancaster
County
Career & Technology
Center
in
Lancaster County
,
Pennsylvania
. He holds a BS degree
in Workforce Education and Development from
Penn
State
University
with an emphasis on Culinary Arts.
Tom has attended the Culinary Institute of America, Johnson
and
Wales
University
, LaVarenne at the Greenbrier (under the instruction of Anne Willan
and Julia Child) and the International School of Confectionary Arts.
Tom’s vast
experience includes teaching at both the high school and college
level. He has consulted
with several companies offering training, technical advice and
management related workshops. Tom
is a ServSAFE certified instructor through the National Restaurant
Association and teaches many seminars and workshops related to food
safety and sanitation. He
has written articles food several journals and food related
websites.
Tom is host and
producer of Blue Ridge Cable 11’s “Cooking for Class”.
The show has run since 2002 and prior to that he was a
co-host with
Lancaster
’s own Betty Groff on “What’s Cooking Betty?”
The show emphasizes local chefs and food that is fun to
prepare and even more fun to eat!
Outside of the
culinary world Tom keeps very active in the community and enjoys
“trying” to keep in shape! He
served as a First Class Culinary Specialist in the U.S. Navy,
Submarine Service from 1980 to 1986.
