Carl P.
Kern is the main weather anchor for Blue Ridge Communications
Cable-11. Carl is also a senior videographer, who enjoys rushing out
the door to be on the scene of breaking news.
Carl
began as a weatherman in April 1997. His first on air duty covering
a major snowstorm. Carl is always first out the door to share
condition reports with his viewers and takes his coverage of the
local weather forecasts very seriously. Carl can been seen nightly
at 10pm on Cable 11 News.
Before
assuming his on-air duties, Kern started at Blue Ridge TV-13 as a
videographer in January 1996. He
still enjoys his responsibilities as a cameraman, in addition to his
weather reporting duties. Memorable
stories that he has covered include the September 11, 2001
terrorist attacks, in which his video won an “Award of
Excellence” from the National
Videographer Awards and the 1997 North Carolina arrest of
Patricia Rorrer. Kern
has also had photographs published through the Associated Press in
newspapers such as the Philadelphia Inquirer.
A
graduate of Elizabethtown College, Carl Kern earned his Bachelor of
Arts degree in Communications.
In 1986, he started his relationship with TV-13 through an
internship.
Originally
from Monroe County, Carl Kern now resides in Carbon County with his
wife Lisa and son Jacob.
